# Writing algebraic expression

#### Chikis

Hello, how do I write algebraic fractions using symbols?

I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO POST A THREAD BUT THERE HAVE BEEN NO BREAK THROUGH:
Simplify
/frac{m+n}{2}-frac{m-n}{3} + 3(m-1)

The expression should read m+n over 2 minus m-n over 3 plus 3(m-1)

#### fysmat

Code:
[MATH*]\frac{m+n}{2}-\frac{m-n}{3} + 3(m-1)[/MATH*]
Remove the stars and it appears like this:

$$\displaystyle \frac{m+n}{2}-\frac{m-n}{3} + 3(m-1)$$

In general \ is used to indicate what follows is a special symbol of some sort.

#### ibdae3

Code:
[MATH*]\frac{m+n}{2}-\frac{m-n}{3} + 3(m-1)[/MATH*]
Remove the stars and it appears like this:

$$\displaystyle \frac{m+n}{2}-\frac{m-n}{3} + 3(m-1)$$
Thank you my friend

I right-clicked and copied and pasted formula code in this post and this is what I got:

\displaystyle \frac{m+n}{2}-\frac{m-n}{3} + 3(m-1)

Is there a latex tutorial somewhere?

Thanks

Never mind. I found some utube tutorials.

But that raises another question. Can I create a LATEX document elsewhere and then post it?
Thanks

You really don't need to do this, the forum supports some $\LaTeX$. You need to put the code you want to be rendered by latex within double \$, or just wrap it and press the$\Sigma\$ symbol on the menu above (the menu wont' appear complete below on "quick reply" box, you need to click "post reply" button).

Start latex here: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX

You find anything you need for these forums there. For more advanced stuff you can google the stack exchange-like websites.
