Sample Space Question

I have no idea how to tackle these 2 questions.

A player shoots 5 free throws during a game. Sample space for counting the number of she makes is

a) S = any number between 0 and 1
b) S = whole numbers between 0 to 5
c) all sequences of 5 hits or misses

Any help would be much appreciated.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following table presents the probability distribution for the total length of federal
prison sentences – on the day of sentencing - for Canadian males convicted of various
offences in 2009 (there is no overlap in the categories).

Sentence Probability
Less than 3 years 0.46
[3,6) years 0.39
[6,10) years 0.09
Greater than 10 years but w/ specified end date 0.02
Life sentence (always longer than 10 years but / no specified end date 0.04

What is the sample space for the random variable sentence?

Isn't this just a matter of knowing the definition of "sample space"? That should be in your text book. Wikipedia says "In probability theory, the sample space of an experiment or random trial is the set of all possible outcomes or results of that experiment."
The "possible results" for the first experiment are five hits or misses and for the second one of 5 intervals of numbers.

Math Focus: Physics, mathematical modelling, numerical and computational solutions
For example, the sample space for rolling a single die is {1,2,3,4,5,6}.
