Derivation of the Lorentz Transformation

(I have posted this on other physics forums with no results.)
The above link is to the first appendix to Einstein's 'Relativity: The Special and General Theory', to which I will refer in this post.

I've been able to work out (by myself or with help) statements 1 through 6, but I'm absolutely lost on equation (7), and the following one. If anyone could help with how he worked out those two, it'd be a great help. Thanks.
