Benzyl alcohol, also known as benzyl alcohol, formula C6H5CH2OH, density 1.045 g / mL at 25 C (lit.), is the simplest containing phenyl alcohols, can be seen as hydroxymethyl substituted benzene, or phenyl substituted methanol. Benzyl alcohol is a weak aromatic odor colorless viscous liquid, sometimes benzyl alcoholin the home long after the patch because of oxidation of benzaldehyde bitter almond flavor. Have polarity, low toxicity, vapor pressure, so as alcohol solvents. Combustible. Slightly soluble in water (25 ml of water is about 1 gram of soluble benzyl alcohol), with ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform and other organic solvents.
