computation of pi (?)

I am fairly new to this forum...

I was wondering if anyone has a good idea of how the fundamental principles can be used to compute the value of pi (?) with possible historical dates of origin.

Any example also will also help.

I would be really grateful for any help in this regard.

Thank You.
