New forum arrangement

I like the new arrangement of the forums. It is more consistent with which ones are the most popular.

In response to your new sig:
What a Catch-22! If it keeps up for too long, we may just have to arbitrarily declare one particular end "up" (but first we will have to settle on a method for choosing one, and a method for deciding upon the method, ad nauseam ).

Personally, I'd recommend the method of first finding which end is down, based on which end is up, and then taking the opposite of the end that was found to be down and consider that to be up.

Flipping a coin also sounds nice.

The motivation of the new arrangement is not so much about the popularity of the topics but rather about the wish not to deter high schoolers from entering the forums by sporting the college sections first. A major overhaul of the website will take place soon (this will coincide with my return to France and the release of the updated software).
Incidentally, it seems like the censorship of this forum in China has been lifted (they probably review the potentially dissident websites manually).

That's a smart idea.

So it's all right now to say contraband things against the government of China?

They don't hide the fact that they filter the information to remove potentially harmful material (the meaning of "harmful" being quite broad); however, this is a misconception to think that they prevent people from expressing their views. You are almost absolutely free here.

Before I first came here, I was brainwashed by our westerner medias and then I realized that, even though there are some disadvantages to censorship, I think this system rather helps people.

For instance, they don't show blood or sexual content on TV, which brings their children to develop a more authentic view of human relationships. While they show, in general, less civism than we do (and for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, the government has published a white book in order to "civilize" the Beijingers a little further), their most fundamental values are, I am afraid to say, much more balanced than ours. The security level is very high here, and you can walk down the streets any time of the day or night without having to watch over your shoulder, as would be the case in Europe or the US. This is partly explained, I think, by an absence of immigration.

Overall, I am 100% convinced that within the next 20-30 years China will knock out the US and EU economies.

Absolutely, you said it. That's when the trouble will start... Three powerful entities don't get along very well when two of them aren't happy with the third. The idea that everybody will just adjust and keep rolling along happily is a fool's dream, especially if you look at similar cases in history. What happened when the Allies knocked the Germans to pieces economically after World War I? Why, the Germans weren't happy, of course. Then along came this man by the name of Adolf Hitler who claimed that he would set things to rights, and you know the rest.
