Hello My Math Forum

Evening, semi retired maths teacher from the UK here. I've been looking to get into the educational software game and started with a blog to upload my resources and recently been trying to make a few quid to upgrade the site functionality.

Currently looking to see if there are any differences in teaching methods to see whether they can be incorporated into the resources I am producing.

In case anyone wants a look. http://mathsshed.weebly.com/blog

Why does the map need to be centred around the school for full effect?

Most of the pupils will live in the immediate vicinity so a map that may have their house on will certainly add interest to the lesson. Pupils will also know named places in their locality better than major cities so you can ask what is the bearing to your house, what is the bearing from your house to your best friends house, to top woods etc etc. For those of you who don't know what an OS map is, this link shows the level of detail

By having the map centred on the school you can get all pupils to face North, point to local towns and then relate that directly to the map.
