Philosophy of Math

Well, when the usual discussions are had under this heading, I lean pretty heavily to the (neo-)Platonist positions and find at least some of the alternatives downright annoying. But what, I asked myself, is my REAL philosophy of math in the sense of what motivates me to do it? And I answered "Well, me, I suppose I am a pretty committed Platonist, but truly committed Hedonist. Done right, ALL math is recreational math. The fact that some to a lot of it is of practical, theoretical or even philosophical import is probably a good thing, but mostly an irrelevant thing when I am in a real math muse or want to get into one."

This thought crystalized as I was looking at the triangular numbers mod everything. It's been fun to do, fun to share with some people and I ultimately couldn't care less if anyone, including mathematicians, considers the work of any particular interest. If someone does find it of interest, great. Nice cherry on top. If not, still great, as I still have the rest of the icecream sundae of doing it to enjoy!
