College Level Placement Pretest

Can someone please explain why the answer is E and show the work step by step? I would very much appreciate it.

sides are proportional because the smaller triangle is similar to the larger one

10/AD = 8/10

8AD = 100

AD = 12.5

btw ... not a 30-60-90 triangle; it is a 6-8-10 Pythagorean triple

The diagram should show that DE is parallel to BC or perpendicular to AE.
