Please make sure you wrote the first problem correctly. As for the second, if you put brackets around (10 + 2 * 10), you get 30. Whether you divide 30 by 1 and then add 4, giving 34, or divide 30 by 1 + 4 = 5, giving 6, you will not get 38. So we are going to add 10 to some number and get 38, which means that number must be 28. If we put brackets around 2 * 10, we get 20. Whether we divide by 1 and then add 4, giving 24, or divide by 1 + 4 = 5, giving 4, we do not get 28. So that leaves 10 + 2 * (10/1 + 4). Does that work? It does 10/1 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14. 2 * 14 = 28. 10 + 28 = 38. |
