I'm a computer geek who has recently started studying a lot of pure mathematics in order to better understand computer science. My main interests right now are math, computers, and art. I've mostly been studying subjects in the discrete mathematics/computer science area, mainly number theory, set theory, logic, and the theory of computation, as well as dabbling in universal algebra. I thought since this is becoming a major part of my life right now, joining a mathematics forum would be appropriate. I am not a professional mathematician or computer scientist; I'm currently a student at a community college attending classes that are completely beneath me (I know that sounds pretty arrogant, but what else can I say?). Almost everything I know is selftaught. Now that I've given some idea of who I am and what my interests are, I'll end my post here before this becomes an egocentric ramble.

Welcome! You'll find that many of us share your interests. I'm a computer programmer who enjoys number theory, for example.

Hello and welcome! I got into math for the very same reason, back when Windows was a cute little curiosity of a program that ran on top of MSDOS. I too attended a community college, and while I could ace the computer science classes while asleep since I was a selftaught programmer, it was the math classes that grabbed my attention and became my passion. I also enjoyed physics, biology and English. I hope you find your time here beneficial. It has certainly been good to me!
