Hi, folks. I recently came across this site and decided to join the forums. It looks like it has a good mix of topics and regular activity. About me: Math is a hobby of mine; I do not have a Ph.D. in math so discussions of eigenspaces, kernels, etc. go over my head. I am mainly interested in numerical mathematics. Computer programming is also an interest of mine, as well as the Internet (which sucks up WAAAY too much of my time). If a resource exists on the Internet, I probably know about it or can find it quickly. I have ZERO ability with LaTex or any other math programs, so when I reply to an inquiry about theory and background information I will probably refer people to existing pages on the Internet. MathWorld and Wiki are two of my favorites (they have good background theory, which saves me the trouble of retyping existing information. Hopefully, this forum does not have a policy against sending people offsite when responding to a post). A nonmathematicsrelated interest of mine is ancient civilizations, for example, ancient Egypt. I do quite a lot of reading on this topic (for example, ancient Egypt, ancient Sumeria, etc.). (Julien, nice avatar of Thoth. I am curious: where did you get it?) Tom

Be welcome! I think if you like numbers, and pure maths, a place that you will enjoy is the "number theory" forum!! This forum for now do not accept LaTeX, but I think will accept in the future. A nonmathematicsrelated interest of mine is also ancient civilizations, but I am more fascinated about the greeks (although all the other remaining ancient civilizations are fascinating). greetings

Welcome to the math forum, Tom! We're glad to have you in here! One of my nonmathematicsrelated interest of mine is playing guitar and weight training.

Welcome, Tom! I'm also interested in numerical mathematics, in particular computational number theory and numerical analysis.
