In terms of actually being able to get a teaching job, etc? I'm an older student, just basically taking classes that suit my interests. There are so many 'crap' courses to obtain a degree it seems. Math and a couple other areas are all that interest me. I think the education system in the US needs a SERIOUS overhaul. Gazillions of grads with worthless degrees. Granted maths not for everyone I know but you get my drift. And if online degrees are 'ok'........do you have any recommendations? I realize a lot of info you can get for free such as Khan. Thing I don't like about Khan is that to me it seems to have no structure you just jump around to whatever, not like an actual course. Perhaps i'm wrong but that's what it seemed like to me. I guess math is just one of those things I want to prove to myself I can do. I got an A in college algebra 25 years ago but that's as far as I went.

Generally, I would expect that online courses are not respected. Having said that, some may be I would talk to a few potential employers: headmasters/principals/etc.. It may also depend on what you want to teach and where. If you travel to some poorer countries, they may not be so picky about formal qualifications at all, let alone worrying about where they come from.
