Doing complex calculations on my computer?

If I wanted to input calculations in my computer and have it work on them, exactly what software would I require? I mean simple calculations really, the sort of things that can be inserted into a calculator just to further extremes (bigger numbers etc.) and preferably able to do summations, integrals etc. (which my calculator can do but only with smaller numbers, few terms etc. but I mentioned it since many standard scientific calculators can't) preferably in the standard notation (not requiring learning a language or anything) and preferably for Mac OS X and preferably free.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Many in the online math community use W|A:

Wolfram Alpha

for exactly the types of things you describe. The syntax is quite straightforward, and if you have any questions about how to obtain the result to any expressions, feel free to post and we will help.

I like PARI/GP, see my .sig. It's free.

I have been using Wolfram Alpha but for a particular calculation, it couldn't do it. In this case an expression involving a higher root. I do like Wolfram Alpha although it is sometimes a pain to enter certain things but it's pretty powerful.

Awesome, I'm going to check it out now. I'll let you know how it goes.
