The marker's lifetime will presumably depend on the line's width as well as its length, so your calculation (that effectively ignored the width) was inappropriate and dimensionally incorrect.
Anyway, the biggest problem is that I still don't quite understand. This is why I want to re-read every math I've learned until now to get e better understanding. It's quite sad that I'm in university knowing too much about maths and can't solve a simple problem like this, especially while I'm an Electrical and computer engineer, which our goal is to solve problems using maths.
