Senior Member Joined: May 2016 From: USA Posts: 1,192 Thanks: 489  You need to reread Malthus: he had a general "vice" factor in mind, and it included just about everything that disproved the empirical validity of his model. Population would grow at its maximum potential biological rate unless, as usually happened, it was reduced below that potential by misery (such as famine) or vice (such as condoms). In later editions, he added that delayed marriage might also be effective in lowering the rate of population growth. It is a remarkably silly argument, particularly in the first, unrevised edition: population would outgrow the food supply unless it didn't.
