Help for doing a project :)

I'm a student of applied mathematics at third semester. I have passed Ordinary differential equations and I'm currently studying dynamical systems theory. For the summer, after fourth semester, I want to do a project on my own, without any relation to my university and without any intention of publishing its article, I just like to use the math skills that I have learnt to solve real world problems. NOW my problem is I DON"T KNOW HOW TO BEGIN! I have passed biology at the second semester and I like to work on virus dynamics. I don't know whether my skills are enough or not; also, for some personal reasons, I can't ask my professors about it so I would appreciate any help!

As you're interested in virus dynamics, you could start by buying a textbook on the subject.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear, I'm more interested in Epidemic modeling!
There aren't any textbook about that issue in my country; can you suggest some?

A Google book search will provide links to previews of available textbooks, and these will possibly let you see enough to judge whether it would be a good idea to buy the book.
