To calculate the determinant of the following matrix, I would like to ask is it possible to eliminate any lines, because I don't see how 1) $\displaystyle \begin{vmatrix} a & a & a \\ a & a & a \\ a & a & a \end{vmatrix}$ Last edited by skipjack; August 15th, 2019 at 05:26 AM.

By subtracting the third row from the second, you have (0 2a 0) for the second row. Then doing cofactor expansion will be a breeze.
