Similarly, for ( ) and { }, use \left(, \right), \left{, and \right}. That would be \left \{
\left \{ \pi \right \} gives $\displaystyle \left \{ \pi \right \}$

This only has to be done for the curly brackets.

I think you still have to re-edit or repost since what you posted is not displaying correctly.

For coding implemented by MathJax, such as anything enclosed in math tags, the rules are stricter and it's necessary to use \left\{ and \right\} (or just \{ and \} if the displayed symbols are not required to be automatically resized). MathJax requires the extra "\" symbols only in conjunction with curly brackets (sometimes called braces) that are to be displayed, and doesn't accept them in conjunction with square brackets or parentheses.
