Latex

Does anyone know if Latex is free to download?
If so, where can I find it?

Re: Latex

If you're on Windows, search for MiKTeX which is free.

Re: Latex

Does anyone know whether I can implement this into my website? When we write exponents, square roots, subscripts, etc, it can be a little difficult to follow.

Exponents, square roots, and subscripts can be done in regular HTML; however, for more sophisticated expressions, other options are available.

For example, MathJax:
http://www.mathjax.org/

It uses Javascript to display mathematical formulae in web browsers.

If you are on a WordPress blog, there are several plug-ins available for LaTex:
http://www.dessci.com/en/products/ma...rget=wordpress
http://www.wiris.com/en/plugins/wordpress
to name a couple.

Alternately, there are a few sites that accept LaTeX input and generate gifs for posting, for example,
http://www.codecogs.com/latex/eqneditor.php

Download the gif you've created, and then upload it to your own site.

Re: Latex

It's at freeforums.org using phpbb. What he really wants is a latex code like we have here but...

It doesn't take html unless there's a bb code for that which I'm unaware of. And images have to be URL's. I went to that last link you gave - pretty cool by the way. I like how it has the little pictures to use in case you don't know the code. Anyway, if the poster has a place to host an image that would work, but not everyone does.

I tried the phpbb one in the list, which used a "tex" code, but it didn't work. I wonder why. That would have been the best options since it would keep it permanently on the forum page.

Both the URL and encoded URL work, if put inside the image tags at the forum. (Not sure the difference with the encoded one, but it does work.) I'm wondering how is this staying there? I closed the page and the image is still on the forum where I was experimenting with it. Is that site keeping like every image someone makes on there???? How long will that stay there? I supposed if it stayed even a month, it would be long enough for a variety of people to see it in the post before it goes poof.

Well, anyway, if farmtalk comes back to check, hopefully he'll see I got that to work.
