LaTeX help

Hey.

I'm just starting working on LaTeX.

For the sake of greater clarity I'll only show where the problem is, also because I think the problem can be solved within what is below:

Dada uma família não vazia de conjuntos não vazios $\cal A$=\{A_i\}_{i\in I} existe uma função

In the above sentence, after $\cal A$=\{A_i\}_{i\in I}, LaTeX ignores all spaces, and so the output is something like:

Dada uma família não vazia de conjuntos não vazios $\cal A$=\{A_i\}_{i\in I} existeumafunção

Can anyone tell me how I can solve this?

Thanks.

Re: LaTeX help

You have an opening $without a closing$. Add the closing $. Saviola August 31st, 2010 06:57 PM Re: LaTeX help I only open$ once, and I close it too as you can see below:

Dada uma família não vazia de conjuntos não vazios $\cal A$=\{A_i\}_{i\in I} existe uma função

Any ideas?

Re: LaTeX help

Well, move the $right so it encloses all the math. Saviola September 1st, 2010 04:04 AM Re: LaTeX help Your suggestion solves the problem, but creates new ones. I want to apply \cal only to first A, in doing what you told me, every letter gets affected by \cal. Not only that, the character i turns into some sort of bracket. What can I do? Thanks for the help. aswoods September 1st, 2010 04:52 AM Re: LaTeX help Enclose it in braces: {\cal A}=... ${\cal A}=\{A_i\}_{i\in I}$ Saviola September 1st, 2010 05:19 AM Re: LaTeX help Thanks, your suggestion, written below, solved.${\cal A}=\{A_i\}_{i\in I}\$ existe uma
