Sounds like a nightmare
Actually it was rather fun at BRE, back in 1968.

The brick measurements (not the only things I did) were carried out with a really sophisticated floating micrometer and did lead to some amazing findings.

We calculated that if the Great Wall of China had been built all in one go of fresh bricks, its ends would have been expanding at about 40 mph.
