The Question asks "simplify the surd 5V22 x V33 by writing it as a product of an integer and a surd in its simplest form" This is as far as I have got but not sure if I have worked it wrong and thats why I'm not getting anywhere? I have just put the surd with an underline and the letter v as I dont know how to put in the proper root sign. 5V22 x V33 = 5V22 x V33 = 5V726 = 5 V x V ? Any advise on whats happening? Thanks.

Re: Surds

Hello, Rob158!

Quote:
 $\text{Simplify: }\;5\sqrt{22}\,\cdot\,\sqrt{33}$

$5\sqrt{22}\,\cdot\,\sqrt{33}$

$\;\;\;=\;5\,\cdot\,\sqrt{2\cdot11}\,\cdot\,\sqrt{3 \cdot11}$

$\;\;\;=\;5\,\cdot\,(\sqrt{2}\,\cdot\,\sqrt{11})\,\ cdot\,(\sqrt{3}\,\cdot\,\sqrt{11})$

$\;\;\;=\;5\,\cdot\,(\sqrt{11}\,\cdot\,\sqrt{11})\, \cdot\,(\sqrt{2}\,\cdot\,\sqrt{3})$

$\;\;\;=\;5\cdot\,(11)\,\cdot\,\sqrt{6}$

$\;\;\;=\;55\sqrt{6}$
