Puzzle

Example 1
4/8-1-5-6 = 4+ 8

Example 2
7/2 = 2-3-4 = 7+ 2

Can you solve for y in ?

8/5-4-2-y = 8 + 5

And: why 2 equal signs in 2nd example?
