solution mixture word problem

Ho much water must be evaporated from 120 pounds of solution which is 3% salt to make a solution of 5% salt?

I did it exactly the same way it is shown in this link http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/mixtu ... tml#remove (since it's the same problem with different numbers) but I keep getting 40 for the answer instead of the correct answer which is 48, I don't know what am I doing wrong?, please help, thanks

this is the equation I used:
.97(120)-x = .95(120-x)
x=40

You seem to have made a mistake in your arithmetic.

The next equation I get is: .02(120)=.05x
Therefore x = (2/5)120=48

A picture is worth....

[attachment=0:282xbv1d]Salt.jpg[/attachment:282xbv1d]

3.6/(120-w) = 5/100

w = 48
