Could we build such a machine? Think of the possibilities. Cheeseburgers for everyone but no cows need to be slaughtered. Of course then no cows would need to be raised. Which is worse? To be bred only for food? Or to not even be bred at all and denied any chance to live? Well, this has been an interesting conversation with myself.

He's referring to the other thread which was about work rates and duration to complete something (how long it took for cows to eat all the grass if the grass grows back or how long it takes to cut hair if it grows back very fast!).

There's many, many problems that can be worked out using that kind of mathematics, because it's quite a fundamental. Here's some from the top of my head:

1. Duration and rate to manufacture goods based on supplies
2. Logistics: transportation of goods when using different vehicles or fuels
3. Equilibrium population of bacteria in petri dish (growth rates versus death rate)
4. Equilibrium size of plants or fungi given certain sets of nutrients/water/sunlight
5. Sustainable population of individuals in a settlements based on imports/exports
6. Duration to complete tasks based on work rate/staff/tools/wages/etc.
7. Economics: ROI

Note, however, that the problem you dealt with (grass consumption/growth) was a linear problem, but many applications are non-linear; they can be quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, power law, etc.
