When two people work together, their rates add.

"One person paints a room in two hours."
So this person works at a rate of one room per two hours or 1/2 room per hour,

"Another person paints the same room in three hours."
So this person works at a rate of one room per three hours or 1/3 room per hour.

Together they work at the rate 1/2+ 1/3= 3/6+ 2/6= 5/6 room per hour. That is 6/5 hour per room. They would paint the room in 6/5 hour which is the same as 1 hour and 12 minutes.
