 September 21st, 2017, 08:21 PM #1 Newbie   Joined: Sep 2017 From: Los Angeles Posts: 1 Thanks: 0 Word problem if I need to average 800 donuts a day but in only 2.5 hours 5 days a week and 8 hours saturday and sunday. How many donuts do I have to do on Sat and Sunday and how many should I really expect to do Mon-Fiday? Hope that makes sense
 September 21st, 2017, 08:36 PM #2 Senior Member     Joined: Sep 2015 From: USA Posts: 1,655 Thanks: 841 $avg = \dfrac{N}{7} = 800$ $N=5600$ (that's a lot of donuts!) during the week you get $h_{mf}=(2.5)(5) = 12.5$ hours and during the weekend you get $h_w = (2)(8) = 16$ hours so you get $h = m_{mf}+h_w = 12.5+16 = 28.5$ hours total assuming a constant rate of making the donuts this would be $r = \dfrac{5600}{28.5}=\dfrac{11200}{57}$ donuts/hr the number of donuts you need to make on the weekend is $n_w = h_w \cdot r = (16)\dfrac{11200}{57} \approx 3144$ the number you need to make on the week days is $n_{mf} = 5600-3144 = 2456$
