Fresh mushrooms are grown in a farm. Some of these are dried in an oven. A batch of fresh mushrooms weighs 5kg. The amount of water in these mushrooms is 92% of their weight.

(a) What is the weight of the dried mushrooms if all the water were to be removed?

(b) What is the weight of the mushrooms at a stage when they are partially dried and the amount of water is 60% of the total weight?

Math Focus: Yet to find out.
What are you struggling with? Do you know what a percentage is? And what it represents?

Math Focus: Algebra
Percentage of water in dried mushroom +percent of water in fresh mushroom = 100%
X + 92% = 100%
X =8%
Weigth of dried = 8/100 x 5kg
Weight = 0.4kg
B) weight of dried + weight of 60% of water
0.4kg + 60/100 x 5kg
Ans =3.4kg
