relation equivalence

1) For each equivalence relation , find the requested equivalence class.
a) R = { (1,1) , (1,2 ) , (2,1) , (2,2 ) , (3,3 ) , (4,4 ) } to { 1,2,3,4 } .Ache [ 1 ] .
RESPONSE : [ 1] = { 1,2} ( All elements that are related to 1)] .

b) R = { (1,1) , (1,2 ) , (2,1) , (2,2 ) , (3,3 ) , (4,4 ) } to { 1,2,3,4 } .Ache [ 4 ] .
RESPONSE : [ 4 ] = { 4,4 } ( All elements that are related 4 )

Personally, I do not understand this issue or with feedback.
What would equivalence class lost? And because the answers are these ?
can anybody help me?
