I am a 4 digit number, my thousands digit is 5 more than my hundred digit, and my ones digit is the sum of my thousands and hundreds digit my tens digit is the difference of my thousands and hundreds digit, what number am I? so far I only got the tens which is 5 from my equation a = b + 5 then c = a - b but I can no longer get to the next equation but as I can see, the hundreds can only be either 0,1 or 2 a=thousands b=hundreds c=tens 2.) I am 5 digit number, my ones digit is 5 less than my hundreds digit, my other digits are all twice my ones digit, what number am I? - i couldn't get a single number 3.) I am a 3 digit number my hundreds digit is 4 more than my ones digit and my tens digit is their difference, what number am I? - here I got the tens digit which is 4 but could not get the hundreds and ones. a = 4 + c b = a - c b = 4+c-c b = 4 a=hundreds b=tens c=ones Help June 21st, 2012, 08:11 AM   #2

Can you "see" that c = 5?

1000(a) + 100(a - 5) + 10(5) + 2a-5
= 1102a - 455
a = 5,6,7 will all be solutions June 21st, 2012, 08:35 AM #3 Senior Member   Joined: Jul 2010 From: St. Augustine, FL., U.S.A.'s oldest city Posts: 12,211 Thanks: 521 Math Focus: Calculus/ODEs Re: Im stucked up with this word problem 2.) I am 5 digit number, my ones digit is 5 less than my hundreds digit, my other digits are all twice my ones digit, what number am I? Write the number as: 10000a + 1000b + 100c + 10d + e From the given information, we find: e = c - 5 a,b,d = 2e The valid values for e are {1,2,3,4} to get: 22621 44742 66863 88984 3.) I am a 3 digit number my hundreds digit is 4 more than my ones digit and my tens digit is their difference, what number am I? Write the number as: 100a + 10b + c From the given information, we have: a = c + 4 b = 4 The valid values for c are {0,1,2,3,4,5} to get: 440 541 642 743 844 945 Tags problems, stuck, word Search tags for this page
