one city's population is 75000. every year it increases with 2/100. how many people will there be after 1 year? answer is 76500 but i need the steps.

2/100 = 0.02, a 2% increase ... 1.02(75000) = 76500

but i don't understand where did you get the 1.02 from

The original amount was 75000. The increase was 2% or 0.02 times 75000. You could do that either as 75000+ 0.02(75000)= 75000+ 1500 or as 75000+ 0.02(75000)= 75000(1+ 0.02)= 75000(1.02).
