Another confusing word problem

This is yet another example of a problem on the sample NC EOG test (7th grade).

A rectangular piece of land will be divided diagonally into two congruent triangular sections. One section will be covered with grass, and the other section will be paved. The blueprint measurements for the piece of land are 5 inches wide by 12 inches long. The blueprint scale is 1/4 inch = 10 feet. How much area will be paved?

A) 2,400 square feet
B) 9,600 square feet
C) 48,000 square feet
D) 96,000 square feet

My daughter is having trouble with word problems. Most of the problems on the NC 7th Grade EOG ARE word problems, and I'm trying to help her.

Same trick as before. Let u=1/4 inch on blueprint. The Blue print rectangle is 20 u by 48 u, which becomes 200 ft. by 480 ft. land - total area=96000 square feet. Paved area = 48000 square feet.
