What Kind Of Math Is This? ... FC&index=3

If you skip to anywhere after 20 minutes you'll the problems he's doing. It gets more complicated towards the end of the video.

Can someone tell me what kind of math this is? I need to learn this stuff but taking a self-taught approach.

Around 24:00 he's using mathematical optimization. This particular example seems to be at a pre-calculus level to me, but others might use more advanced techniques (e.g., Lagrange multipliers or Karush-Kuhn-Tucker) which would require college-level math.
