Hello, I'm creating a web game, and I'd like there to be a semirealistic economy. I'd like it to be setup where users can harvest resources, and then sell those resources for gold. Those resources will then be taken and automatically created into items. Right now, I'm having trouble figuring out how to calculate what to pay for the resources. For instance, if there is more wood in circulation, obviously the payout in gold needs to be less. I need to know how I can calculate such a thing consistently. I'd like to understand what's going on, not just looking for a solution, so please let me know how it works if you post solutions for me. Thanks a lot!

Sounds fascinating. Tell us more about the game so we can help. How many players play together one (singleplayer), several (competitive), or lots (MMORPGstyle)? I need to know whether we're simulating the rest of the world, or if there already *is* a 'rest of the world'. And what resources are there? What style of game is it a progress game like Civilization, a Starcraftstyle buildandfight, or what?
