MS Word grayed out "Replace All" is nonfunctional

In Microsoft Word, how can one avoid the intermittent graying over and resulting inability of the editing button "Replace All" et al?

It clears up when "Find what" and "Replace with" are entered for each document, but I would like to edit using the same entries for a list of files.

Apparently, Word does not allow "Replace All" over many documents in a simple manner.

You can probably do it easily with a Powershell script. I have one that exports every Word file in a folder to PDF format.

v8archie: great idea, if it is easy as it sounds -- know that easy for you may not be easy for me. I have seen some such script, and it seems daunting -- like what language is it in and where is it entered?

Math Focus: Yet to find out.
I'd just avoid that nasty software altogether... Has a mind of it's own.

I can guarantee that you will not regret learning LaTeX. There is a bit of a learning curve at first, but well worth it.

https://code.adonline.id.au/docx-to-pdf-powershell/

There's a little bit of fidding involved first time to set some permissions: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pow...powershell-5.1

To start PowerShell you can use explorer to navigate to the appropriate folder (the one with the script in). Then click on File->Open Windows PowerShell

If you close a Word file, it forgets anything in Find and Replace. If you are doing Find and Replace for many files, don't close Word in between files. You could make one blank Word file that stays open so you can edit your files and close each file when you're done without closing Word.
