Carbon dioxide isn't nice at all, it doesn't just suffocate you.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Not as bad as carbon monoxide, but I still wouldn't want to be breathing it at high concentrations. Since it's heavier than air, it can pool, an airtight basement could be dangerous if the CO2 can't escape.

But the crucial difference between "Carbon Dioxide" and "Carbon Monoxide", as I said before, is that while you can suffocate in Carbon Dioxide, as soon as you are removed from the Carbon Dioxide environment, you can start breathing again. Once you have breathed Carbon Monoxide even after being removed from that environment, your blood cannot carry oxygen to your body until your blood has been "scrubbed".

Oh, I agree, CO is far worse. Depends on the situation, Apollo 13 springs to mind...
