My Math Forum Determinant with Derivatives

 February 28th, 2014, 11:20 AM #1 Newbie   Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 2 Thanks: 0 Determinant with Derivatives I am having a bit of trouble understanding how to tackle this problem. $f(x) \times f''(x) - (f'(x))^2 = -6x^{10} + 600x$ I have noticed that the left-hand side is simply the determinant of the following 2 by 2 matrix: $\begin{vmatrix} f(x) & f'(x) \\ f'(x) & f''(x) \end{vmatrix}$ I don't know if that is relevant though. Could anybody give me some advice?
