Re: Finding the dimension of paper

Hello, sachinrajsharma!

Did you make a sketch?

Quote:
A sheet of paper contains 18 square inches of print. The margins at the top and bottom are each two inches, and the side margins are one inch each. What are the dimensions of the sheet of paper if its total area is to be a minimum?

Code:
      *---------------*
2 | |
- | *-------* |
: | | | |
y | |y | |
: | | x | |
- | *-------* |
2 | |
- *---------------*
: 1 : - x - : 1 :
We are given:[color=beige] .[/color]$xy \,=\,18$

We want to minimize:[color=beige] .[/color]$A \;=\;(x\,+\,2)(y\,+\,4)$

Got it?
