My Math Forum Tricky problem and I'm just stumped

 October 30th, 2012, 12:02 PM #1 Newbie   Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 2 Thanks: 0 Tricky problem and I'm just stumped I'm in pre-calculus and every two weeks we have an assignment due. I have completed every step but the teacher always likes to throw us a curve ball on the final question. I have the class in 90 minutes and this is more of a last ditch effort at guidance but I'd still like to know anyways in case a similar problem appears on the exam. I'll try to be clear: Here are two functions that I have gotten from a story problem. Linear function: L(t)=-30x+240 Exponential function: E(t)=285.19(.794)^x The problem is asking me: Estimate L/t on the one unit interval 0 ? t? 1. The answer is -30/1 or just -30 Now the tricky part: Use the graph of E(t) to find another one unit interval in which delta E/delta t has the same value as delta L/delta t. Explain how you got your answer. If you aren't confused or this makes any sense to you I would really appreciate some help. Thanks.
