My Math Forum equation of a tangent line

 October 26th, 2012, 11:27 AM #1 Senior Member   Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 111 Thanks: 0 equation of a tangent line stuck on the last part (part b). so far I got -3(2x_5) +24 as my function. I have 3 as the slope.

For part b you need to find an equation of a straight line $y= - 6 x + b$ since you know that the slope of the tangent will be -6 = h'(1) but the coefficient b has to be found. This line touches the graph of h at point (1,3), that is the values agree: $y(1)= h(1)$, in other words $3= - 6 + b$ Thus $y= -6x + 9$
