Epsilon-Delta Limit Proof

Hi people!

This is my first post after just registering 5 minutes ago, so go easy on me. As in the tilte, I'm having some difficulty understanding what the hell the epsilon-delta proof of a limit is. Now I know the precise definition but I want someone to explain what is it that I'm doing when I use the epsilon-delta proof in simple english. (Please don't give sarcastic answers like 'You answered the question yourself, to prove the limit"!!) I want a different explanation, because whenever I proof (I know the steps b.t.w) I feel like I'm going in circles without understanding what I'm actually doing. So yeah, I want a different and more comprehensive explanation. Thanks in advance.
