My Math Forum Need Help Solving This Question.

 June 10th, 2009, 07:59 AM #1 Newbie   Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2 Thanks: 0 Need Help Solving This Question. Satix is at a flea market. She wants to get the most knives at the lowest price. But she also wants to get at least one of each. The prices of the knives are: $4.30,$12.80, $11.50,$7.30, $7.50. If she has$50 to spend how much will her change be? Answer: a. $.70 b.$1.10 c. $2.20 d.$4.50 e. $5.00 I thought the the approach to this would be 12.80 11.50 7.50 7.30 4.30 one of each added all together = 43.40 4.30 most for cheapest price 47.70 50.00 to spend 47.70 = 2.30 which is not an option. Maybe I am reading it wrong but how did they get .70 for answer other than the .70 in 47.70? Could the answers be wrong? If so, as far as I understand it, you have the correct answer and my guess is that c) is supposed to be 2.30 rather than 2.20.
