Math Focus: trigonometry
Make x the subject

Make x the subject in the following equation.
ax² + f/e = b

Answer:
ax² + f = be
x² =be – f/a
x = √be – f/a

If ax² + f/e = b (without parentheses) was intended, the result should be x = ±√((b - f/e)/a).

If (ax² + f)/e = b was intended, correct working would be

ax² + f = be
x² = (be – f)/a
x = ±√((be – f)/a).
