$\displaystyle \frac{7}{x 2} = \frac{3}{x 2} + 4$ Multiply both sides by x 2. (We have to be clear here; we cannot let x = 2!) $\displaystyle 7 = 3 + 4(x 2)$ Can you finish from here? Dan
