My Math Forum Team Analysis In Scoring/Allowing Goals

 March 4th, 2014, 07:21 PM #1 Newbie   Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 2 Thanks: 0 Team Analysis In Scoring/Allowing Goals Hey there, I have a feeling that I am way over thinking this equation but hopefully someone on here can help me figure this out with confidence. Assume each team has played 100 games and these numbers are their averages Legend: GS= Goals Scored for that team GA= Goals allowed for that team The problem is this: 1 TEAM A TEAM B OR 2 TEAM A TEAM B GS: 2.81 GS: 2.55 GS: 2.48 GS: 3.23 GA: 3.00 GA: 2.50 GA: 2.40 GA: 2.35 The thing I need to know is in either of these two questions, how I would find out how many goals would be scored (in total for that game) or if either teams scoring potency would increase. If TEAM A faced TEAM B how would you know what the potential outcome would be? In essence I need to know what the # of goals in the game would be. I have tried a bunch of different algorithms to try and solve this but nothing feels right. Hopefully someone can explain this to me! Thanks very much
