So your first step should be $\frac{b}{a} - \frac{2}{a}= b.$ Then you have two fractions with the same denominator, so you can combine them: $\frac{b - 2}{a}= b.$ Now multiply by a to get rid of the fraction: $b -2= ab.$ Finally, dividing both sides by b yields $\frac{b -2}{b}= a.$
