Are you trying to simplify fractions like this?

(x^2 + 3x + 2)/(x^2 - 3x - 4)
[(x + 1)(x + 2)]/[(x + 1)(x - 4)]
(x + 2)/(x - 4) (as long as x isn't -1 to make the denominator 0)
