Could someone point me in the right direction as far as how I would set up these problems? You don't need to answer all of them, I would just like to know how to go about these types of problems. Thanks in advance! 1) Assume that i varies inversely with d$\displaystyle ^2$. If i = 6 when d = 3, then i = 29/2 when d = 2. True or False? 2) Suppose y varies inversely with x. If y = 4 when x = 14, what is the value of y when x = 21? 3) Suppose y varies inversely with x. If y = 3 when x = 2, what is the value of x when y = 5? 4) Suppose y varies inversely with x. If y = 12 when x = 10, what is the value of the constant of variation? 5) Express as a formula: The value p of a house varies inversely with its age q. However, I figured I might get just as good of answers on a forum where everyone is helpful, and ready to answer questions like this. April 26th, 2017, 09:15 AM   #6

Whoever gave you these problems expects you to know what "inverse variation" means! If "A is inversely proportional to B" then B= k/A or AB= k for some constant, k. "If i= 6 when d= 3" then id= 3*6= 18= k. When d= 2, id= 2i= 18. What is i?

The rest of these are done in exactly the same way.
