My Math Forum I need help dividing a line into unequal segments!

I believe what we are both saying is that the geometric sequence won't work. I give. Divide a 33.3 unit line into 35 unequal parts decreasing in length from 1.18 to .88 is apparently just too hard.

I gave those to 3 decimal places, which is why the last five appear to be the same. An alternative to the way the list ends is to start with less than 1.18. Thanks from ronmryd

 April 21st, 2017, 05:04 PM #24 Global Moderator   Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 19,057 Thanks: 1618 My method wasn't good enough to be worth revealing, but I can give the values to 4 decimal places if you wish, which could be useful if you want to try tweaking them manually. Even when 4 decimal places are given, the smallest three values will still be the same.

If anyone else has a formula eating a hole in their pocket let me know. I will be designing more instruments in the future and this will be something I need to do each time. Thanks again.
